It includes sports betting, casinos, and virtual poker. Many forms of gambling are legal, while others are illegal. However, the legality of online gambling varies from state to state.<\/p>\n<p>The first laws governing online gambling were passed in the United States in the late 1990s. By 1998, about 200 gambling websites had popped up. Some were operated by individuals, while others were operated by gambling companies.<\/p>\n<p>In 1999, the US Senate introduced the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act (IGPA), which would have banned any person from participating in online gambling. The US Department of Justice also announced that the Wire Act would apply to all forms of Internet gambling.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007, several similar bills were introduced in the US House. One of these bills, HR 2046, is a bill that would modify the UIGEA. This bill would require online gambling facilities to be licensed by the director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, several other similar bills have been introduced in the House. These bills have not gained much traction.<\/p>\n<p>One of the more recent cases involves a lawsuit against the founders of three of the largest Internet poker companies. They are accused of money laundering and bank fraud.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution of the owners of these companies has raised questions about whether these companies are violating the federal law.
