Poker is a card game that can be played by 2 to 14 players. Each player puts chips (representing money, for which poker is almost invariably played) into a pot when it’s his turn to act. Players may raise, call, or fold.
When a player has a high enough hand to win the pot, he wins all of the chips in the pot. If multiple players have a high hand, they split the pot equally.
There are many different types of Poker games, but the basic rules are always the same: each player is dealt two cards and there is a round of betting. There are also mandatory bets called blinds that players put into the pot before it’s their turn to act.
The first player to act can either call the bet or raise it. If a player raises, he must continue raising in the same way until he’s at least as much in the pot as the player before him. A player can also “check” by putting in no chips.
There are many different hands that can be made in Poker, but the highest is a Royal flush, which contains five consecutive cards of one rank, and a straight, which is 5 consecutive cards of another, or more than one suit. There is a also a flush, which contains four of the same card, and three of a kind, which has two matching cards, and a pair, which has two distinct cards. The high card breaks ties.
