Lottery is a type of gambling where people spend a small amount of money on tickets in the hope that they will win a larger prize. People may also have an irrational belief that they are going to be the one who wins the big jackpot, even though they know the odds are long.
Finally, some research has shown that the lottery disproportionately attracts people from lower-income neighborhoods. These people spend a disproportionate amount of their income on tickets, and they are less likely to buy other forms of gambling.
